Transferring to U-M

Every year, more than 650 transfer students enroll at U-M to complete their four-year degrees.

As a transfer student, you can choose from more than 220 programs of undergraduate study in 10 top-ranked schools and colleges, plus research labs, study-abroad programs, and more.

While we don’t have a minimum credit or GPA requirement, most admitted transfer students have earned at least a 3.0 GPA and apply after having completed at least two full, graded semesters of college. Students who will have achieved junior standing (55+ transferrable credits) by their first semester at U-M are given preference.

We review all applications on an individual, comprehensive basis, and we encourage you to give us additional information about yourself in the essays that will accompany your application. We want to know about your journey: where you’ve been and where you want to go. We look at the whole student—NOT just test scores or GPA.

For more information visit the Admissions Requirements section of this website. To see how your credits will be applied at U-M, see the Transferring Credits section.
